about Tourmaline Chrome
Tourmaline is a crystal silicate mineral compounded with elements such as aluminium, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. Tourmaline is classed as a semi-precious stone and the gem comes in a wide variety of colors. The name comes from the Sinhalese word "turamali" or "toramalli", which translates to stone of many colors. Chrome Tourmaline is the variety of green tourmaline that have high concentrations of chromium which give the gems a more vivid green color than green tourmaline with out the presence of chromium in their composition. Chrome tourmalines are highly prized by collectors due to this. The colors of chrome tourmaline can range from a strongly bluish green, slightly bluish green, green, slightly yellowish green to a yellowish green. The Bluish green to green colors are the most valued. The main sources of chrome Tourmaline are Kenya and Tanzania. Chrome Tourmaline strongly resembles more exspensive Brazillian emerald and Tsavorite garnet. This makes a good choice for a lively green gemstone. Chrome tourmaline crystals grow to larger facet grade material and make a great alternative to more exspensive green gems. They have a good hardness and are durable gemstones for jewelry. Chrome Tourmaline is a October birthstone and would be a good choice for those who are not fans of opal.
