The name Pyrope comes from the Greek pyropos, meaning fiery. Pyrope garnet was the fashion stone of the 18th and 19th centuries, especially by the "Bohemian Garnet". Pyrope Jewelry has been made for over 500 years in Bohemia. Bohemia was the main source for Pyrope garnet in the past. Nowdays there are many other locales where pyrope garnet are found, south Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Madagascar, The United States of America, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Australia. Pyrope Garnet is the magnesium garnet but owes its fiery red color to its iron and chromium content.
